The History

The exact origin of Extreme Boule is hard to pin down. The sport (or art as some prefer) appears to have spontaneously appeared at various points and locations. The sport as described on this blog is first noted in Cardiff circa 2003. Rumour and a healthy dose of myth cloud the truth, but if we were to try and pinpoint the birth of this amazing game then we need look no further than a graveyard in Cardiff.

Back in the Autumn of 2003, a handful of players ventured out on a blustery day for a round of boule. Unable to locate a suitable playing surface the players turned to the uneven lumps and bumps of a Roath church yard nearby.  Trying to play on this extreme surface, normal rules were abandoned and new ones created. The Game of Extreme Boule was born. No doubt the pioneers celebrated with a bottle of port.

The sport attracted players and admirers thick and fast and began being played in more and more extreme locations and situations. Legends were born and myths created.  Organisation and administration was notoriously poor and the port  was cheap and strong.

As the sport grew so the first World Champions were crowned (see below). The modern era has seen developments in organisation and skill with records being kept and trophies awarded. Whats more nowadays anyone can join the league simply by submitting results here.
